Sound familiar?

Your books shouldn't be the thing keeping you up at night.

The close never actually finishes

It's the 20th and last month still isn't reconciled. You're making decisions on numbers you don't fully trust — or not making them at all.

Year-end is a cleanup project

Your tax preparer sends a list of forty questions, you spend weeks digging through statements, and you pay extra for the privilege.

A full-time hire doesn't pencil

You need someone competent and consistent, not a salary, benefits, and management overhead for what is really a part-time workload.

Merit gives you a bookkeeping function that runs on a schedule, is reviewed by a CPA, and costs less than a part-time hire.

What changes

Numbers you can act on, without the overhead.

Bookkeeping is the foundation every other financial decision gets built on. We treat it that way.

Decisions on real numbers

Monthly financials that tie to the bank, so you know your margin and cash position before the next decision — not three weeks after.

Hours back every month

No more categorizing transactions at 10 p.m. Bank feeds, coding, reconciliations, and follow-ups are handled — you just review.

A painless year-end

Clean, tax-ready records handed to your preparer in January. No cleanup fee, no scramble, no list of questions you can't answer.

One predictable line item

A fixed monthly fee, set in writing before we start. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices, no scope that drifts without a conversation.

What's Included

Everything your books need. Nothing you don't.

01

Monthly Reconciliation

Every bank, credit card, and loan account reconciled and reviewed, so your balances are always right.

02

Categorization & Coding

Transactions coded to a clean chart of accounts — consistent month over month, built for real reporting.

03

Monthly Financial Statements

P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow delivered every month, reviewed by a CPA before they reach you.

04

AP / AR Support

Bills tracked, invoices sent, receivables followed up — so nothing falls through the cracks.

05

Payroll Coordination

Payroll entries recorded correctly and reconciled against your provider, every pay period.

06

Tax-Ready Books

Clean records handed to your CPA or tax preparer at year-end — no scramble, no cleanup project.

How It Works

A close that runs on a schedule, not a scramble.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Scoping call

A 30-minute conversation about your accounts, volume, and software. You leave with a fixed monthly quote in writing.

  2. 2

    Days 2–5

    Connect & clean up

We connect your bank feeds and, if needed, catch up or clean up your existing books so we start from solid ground.

  3. 3

    Throughout the month

    We keep the books

Reconciliations and coding happen as transactions clear. Questions come to you in one batch, not a dozen emails.

  4. 4

    Month-end

    Close, review, deliver

Books close by your agreed date. A CPA reviews the statements, then they land in your inbox — with a walkthrough call on Growth and Custom plans.

Already have a bookkeeper who's fallen behind? We'll quote the catch-up as a one-time project so your monthly fee stays fixed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How fast can we start?

Within 5 business days of your scoping call. Bank feeds get connected first; if your books need catch-up work, we'll quote that separately and start it in parallel.

What software do you work with?

QuickBooks Online and Xero. If you're on something else — or on nothing yet — let's talk. Migration is often part of onboarding, and we'll recommend the platform that fits your business.

My books are months behind. Can you help?

Yes. Catch-up and cleanup work is scoped as a one-time project with a fixed fee, so you know the cost before we start and your ongoing monthly fee stays fixed.

What do you need from me each month?

Very little. Bank and card feeds flow in automatically. We'll send you one batch of questions on anything we can't code confidently — usually a handful of transactions — and that's typically it.

Is this bookkeeping or full accounting?

Bookkeeping: reconciliation, categorization, and monthly financial statements. If you also need forecasting, cash management, or lender reporting, our fractional CFO services layer directly on top of the same books.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. Merit is a consulting firm, not a CPA firm, and we don't prepare returns or give tax opinions. What we do is hand your preparer clean, reconciled, tax-ready books — which is what makes their job fast and your bill smaller.

Do you sign an engagement letter?

Always. Every client gets a written engagement letter with clear scope and fees before work begins. If your needs change, we talk first and put the change in writing — no surprise invoices.
